If we turn towards the opinion of mainstream critics, they have evaluated the movie as poor in several cases. They believe that religious conversions have been presented biasedly in the movie.
Taran Adarsh, a renowned movie critic from India has said that The Kerala Story has no big stars and is a movie made on a small budget. Still, the movie’s box office performance has been out of the ordinary. The movie made INR 560m within five days of its release. This is quite a feat for any new release.
It is hard to miss the similarities that The Kerala Story has with The Kashmir Files. The Kashmir Files, it should be noted, was one of the biggest hits that Bollywood produced in the year gone by. The basic theme of the Kashmir Files is the exodus of the Hindu community in the 1990s, which took place in Kashmir.
The Kashmir Files, too, just like the Kerala Story was a small-budget film made with no high-profile star cast. But, the movie garnered praise from India’s PM Narendra Modi.
Even before its release, The Kerala Story has been a subject of controversy
It was in November last year that the politicians from Kerala wanted a ban on the movie. In the movie’s teaser, it was claimed that this one’s a heartbreaking story of 32,000 females. These women chose to ditch their religions to join ISIS.
Alt News, which is a fact-checking website interveined at this juncture. They specified that there’s no proof that the claims made by the movie are true. The filmmakers, nevertheless, stay adamant about the authenticity of the movie’s story.
