Well, you clicked on the right link. May the RSS feed be with you!
In the times of Creation, Curation, Generation and more, the best sites for motorcycle parts and accessories are working on writing content round the clock. Type ‘Motorcycle blogs’, ‘Online Motorcycle blogs’, ‘Latest Motorcycle blogs’ or even ‘Top Motorcycle blogs’, you will find almost unlimited matter on bikes. In this chaotic hustle of bulky matter, few things still have been missed. One of the things is the subject of ‘TYRES’, our nonchalant victims of public abuse that have raided since generation to generation. (Tyres Personified!)
Since the days of John Dunlop ( he invented the first tyre) to experiments of Charles Goodyear ( he created the first vulcanized rubber ) and from Kirkpatrick Macmillan ( he invented the first bicycle) to Gottlieb Daimler ( he invented the first motorcycle), tyres have always played important role in the history of travel and science. ( You see what I did? 4 bits of knowledge in one go!)
Yet in spite of its essence, people don’t understand its value! Just the content all around the social media, tires have been desensitized into just … bulk materials.
Motopsychcle.com believes in making motorcycles – simple to understand. So we are not going to sympathize with the ‘tire’ fraternity, we are just going to guide you on how you can best select the tires for your motorcycles and utilize them in the best possible way.
There are usually two steps to getting the right tires:
* Choosing the right tire based on your needs
* Determining the correct size of your application
Examine your motorbike very carefully. In India, the basic level segment ( ranging from 200cc to 400 cc) is the most common and popular too. Hence the range of tires is maximum with different companies involved (and at times it is on personal preference too).
Next thing to notice about the tire is the ‘born to date’ that indicates the tire’s date of manufacture. They are on the sidewall of the tire and the specs include size, brand, serial number, pattern, mold number etc. These are points by which you can know how often should car tires be replaced with your brand new car after a few years later.
The main focus will be on the date of manufacture. ( Above mentioned specs will be covered in our future tech series )
The date is divided into 4 digits in accordance with the Metric System in India. The first two indicates the week of the year while last two digits indicate Manufacturing year. So for example, you scrutinize your tire and you see the 4 digits (1018) carved on the side wall. You can know when to replace tires age with the help of this table.
Weeks in a Year – 52
Month | Weeks in Them | Month | Weeks in them | Month | Weeks in them |
January | 4 | May | 4 | September | 5 |
February | 4 | June | 4 | October | 4 |
March | 4 | July | 5 | November | 5 |
April | 5 | August | 4 | December | 4 |
You can take reference from the table that we painstakingly created (Duh!), you can compare the first two digits of the manufacture date.
Since it’s the 10th week, you can see that it should fall under March. Hence its 2nd week of March.
Similarly, the last two digits denote the year i.e 2018.
So the date of manufacture will be 2nd week of March 2018.
See, we made it simple. Now you can discover more dates by experimenting with different tires because…
Discovery requires Experimentation
Finally, how many miles to replace tires it also depends on the usage of the rider. See, we are not going to preach on releasing tire pressure, keeping weight off, no skidding, drifting, and stunts (That we would enforce for sure) etc. We humbly just request you that remind yourself once – If you keep tires safe, they will keep you safe.
